Contact the organisation you’re interested in joining, to find out more about them and tell them more about you.

Although organisations advertise specific roles, they will often create something bespoke to suit your skills, desires, and availability – so if you like the look of an organisation but can’t do the exact role advertised, don’t let it stop you!

Before you start consider the following:

• You won’t be paid for your time as a volunteer – how would you like an organisation to show you gratitude and appreciation?
• What do you want to get out of volunteering – friendship, community, confidence, new skills, fulfilment – and how will you make sure you’re getting that thing?
• How can the organisations help you feel really welcome and included. and what do they need to know about you to help them do this?
• Whgat knowledge, skills, experience, and contacts fo you have that might benefit the organisation for future collaborations?
• What ideas do you have that could help the organisation run more smoothly or reach more people?
• What other commitments do you have and what boundaries do you need to hold about how much time you’re able to give and what skills you’re happy to share?
