Feeling the Pinch after Christmas? Help is available at Newton Abbot Cost of Living Event
With the recent cold snap and rising gas and electricity prices a lot of people really feel their finances squeezed after the Christmas holiday.
Many people are concerned about their rent or mortgage payments as well as their food shopping bills going up. Others have to choose between heating or eating.
But there is help available and following the success of a number of Cost of Living events last year Teignbridge residents have an opportunity to find information and support in one place at the Cost of Living Event in the Newton Abbot Market Hall (food hall area) on Saturday 27th January 2024 between10.30 – 2.30.
The event is free and visitors will receive a free raffle ticket with a chance to win a slow cooker, air-fryer, electric blanket or other energy saving gadgets or a supermarket voucher.
Those unable to attend in person can make a 30-minute online appointment through emailing anja@teigncvs.org.uk.
There will be over 15 organisations attending including
Teignbridge District Council (for housing enquiries and more)
South West Water (who may be able to help you get a cheaper water tariff and can offer some water saving gadgets)
ECOE (for free energy advice and measures, and help finding a cheaper supplier)
Teignbridge Citizens Advice and Assist Teignbridge (for information about accessing advice around benefits and more)
QWELL and Wellbeing in Action (to help you look after your wellbeing during this difficult time)
Learn Devon and Eat That Frog (for free learning and training including budgeting and money management)
Devon County Council Early Years and Childcare Services (for information about free childcare or how to become a child minder)
DWP (for information about work and welfare support they offer)
THAT and HITS Foodbanks (for food support available throughout Teignbridge)
The Crafty Cook (for information on how to cook better on a budget)
Lendology (a social enterprise lender offering home improvement loans)
and Homes for Ukraine.
This event is being organised by Teignbridge CVS and Teignbridge District Council.
