South Devon & Torbay Community Grants Fund

Make a difference in your community

  • Have you got an idea?
  • Are you doing something that could be developed further?
  • Do you want to do more to support people in your community?
  • Is your project based in South Devon?

What is the Community Grants Fund?

The Community Grants Fund is an initiative to support people like you in setting up something to help people to improve their health and wellbeing, encourage people to look after themselves better (‘self-care’) and to live more positive and fulfilled lives.

It provides small grants across South Devon for projects which aim to: support and empower people to have greater choice and control over their health and care by supporting them to increase their knowledge or skills and support improved confidence and motivation.

If your project is in the South Devon area you can apply for a grant that:

  • Improves one or more of the following areas across the life course: emotional health and wellbeing, life-long learning, social connectedness, physical activity and diet, or another local priority that supports an integrated care model.
  • Empowers individuals to have greater choice and control over their health and care through increased knowledge, skills, confidence and motivation.
  • Strengthens and develops existing community networks

Grants from £25 to £300 are available to support your idea. Schemes might include setting up a new walking group, a cooking skills workshop, room hire for a new self-care group, or tools for a community gardening scheme - imaginative ideas where a small amount of funding can make a difference to people’s lives.

Schemes should benefit a group of people rather than just one individual, and they should benefit people living within the stated area. You do not need to be a constituted group or charity to apply for this grant.

Applying for funding

Applications are assessed by a panel of local people who will check whether schemes meet the criteria above and are likely to achieve their aims. Panels meet twice a year and you should make sure your application is submitted in time for the panel to discuss. You can apply using the Grants Fund - Application Form below or if you prefer use video, pictures or audio.

The closing date for this round of applications is 27th September 2019.
The panel, consisting of local people who volunteer their time, will meet in October 2019 (date TBC - we will post here once confirmed), and you will be notified of the outcome of your application shortly afterwards.

How will we know if we’ve made a difference?

We expect projects to be able to show they have made a difference within 6 months of being granted funds. We are keen to understand how the money you have received has made a difference and we will contact you after 6 months to discuss your project with you and, where possible, arrange a visit to meet with you to see your project in action.
