The Government’s new Coronavirus Community Support Fund will, at last, open for applications at 10am Friday 22nd May 2020
This makes available a first tranche of £200m in Government funding that will be aimed primarily at small to medium organisations in England. Applications are being handled by the National Lottery Community Fund.
The maths bit: A second tranche of £110m is due to be open for applications in around eight weeks.
The total of £310m is England’s allocation of the total £370m announced by the Government on 8 April – £60m will be distributed to small and medium charities in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The Fund has two key objectives:
- To increase community support to vulnerable people affected by the COVID-19 crisis, through the work of civil society organisations.
- To reduce temporary closures of essential charities and social enterprises, ensuring services for vulnerable people impacted by COVID-19 have the financial resources to operate, and so reduce the burden on public services.
