Scenarios will be set to enable a learner to demonstrate their knowledge and practical skills. During the practical assessment\, the learner will be asked supporting questions by the Trainer/Assessor. The practical assessment is ongoing throughout the course but the Trainer/Assessor will make learners aware of when they are being assessed.

Help is available at Newton Abbot Cost of Living Event \nWith the recent cold snap and rising gas and electricity prices a lot of people really feel their finances squeezed after the Christmas holiday. \nMany people are concerned about their rent or mortgage payments  as well as their food shopping bills going up. DESCRIPTION:This 2.5 hour training session will look at and explore what is meant by the bystander effect and discuss its impact on the lives of minoritised communities. To do this we will also cover the Equality Act 2010\, issues relating to the South West\, the impact of unconscious bias and the importance of allyship. Participants will breakout into rooms to discuss and contribute to the theme of the training.  \nThe training will be facilitated by Plymouth and Devon Racial Equality Council – a charity who aim is to build a just and fair society where everyone has an equal opportunity to live\, learn and learn\, free from prejudice\, discrimination\, and racism. PDREC value diversity and work in partnership with individuals and organisations who are committed to anti-racism and race equality. One of their aims and objectives of Plymouth and Devon Racial Equality Council is to tackle racism and inequality at a strategic level and they work with organisations to help them to appraise the culture of the organisation at a systemic level and identify areas of racism and inequality. DESCRIPTION:Introduced by local Poet Matt Harvey\, Voluntary Organisations and Community Groups in Teignbridge are invited to the launch of the new Teignbridge Lottery for Communities\, which will provide additional funding for charitable and not for profit community groups in Teignbridge and benefit local good causes. \nTickets sales will start in November and now is your chance to get involved. \nThis launch event for Voluntary Organisations and Community Groups Charity will explain how you get on board and how you can receive a share of the funds raised.; under the new Teignbridge Lottery for Communities\, 50 per cent of the funds raised will be shared among good causes and community groups\, 10 per cent will go into a small grants fund distributed by the council and 20 per cent on prizes. The remainder pays for the running costs and VAT. \nA new lottery website will list all the good causes taking part and this event will support you in getting your organisation on to that website.

SUMMARY:Mental Health First Aid
DESCRIPTION:Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a two-day intensive\, interactive and practical training course which provides participants with information\, tools and techniques to support individuals who might be experiencing mental or emotional distress. It is an evidence-based intervention that can be delivered in a wide variety of settings. The training will include how to: \n\nSpot the early signs of a mental health problem\nFeel confident helping someone experiencing a problem and deal with a crisis situation or help prevent someone hurting themselves or others.\nHelp stop a mental illness from getting worse\nHelp someone recover faster\nGuide someone towards the right support\nHelp reduce the stigma of mental health problems\n\nEvery delegate will be issued with a full workbook and manual as part of the course. Upon course completion\, each delegate will receive full accreditation as a Mental Health First Aider from Mental Health First Aid England. \nThis is a 2 day course running on 11th & 12th July and you must attend both days. \nThe cost of this course is usually £288pp \nThis course is subsidised by Teignbridge CVS However there is a £10 Non Refundable admin fee to be paid when booking.

SUMMARY:Emergency First Aid at Work
DESCRIPTION:Gain the skills and knowledge to provide treatment to your casualties in a prompt\, safe and effective manner. \nTo understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider\, including: \n\nBe able to assess an incident\nBe able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty\nBe able to provide first aid to a casualty who is choking\nBe able to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding\nKnow how to provide first aid to a casualty who is in shock\nKnow how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries\n\nThe qualification is assessed through practical demonstration and oral questioning. Scenarios will be set to enable a learner to demonstrate their knowledge and practical skills. During the practical assessment\, the learner will be asked supporting questions by the Trainer/Assessor. The practical assessment is ongoing throughout the course but the Trainer/Assessor will make learners aware of when they are being assessed. \nPlease note you will need to bring photo ID to the course\, At the moment we still require you to wear masks at present. You must be able to complete and pass all practical’s on the floor or only a certificate of attendance can be given and not the qualification. Please be aware of this if you have injuries or ability limitations i.e. bad knees that inhibits keeling or bad wrists that inhibits life saving compressions etc.
