Following the success of the first Teignmouth SOUP event in April, which was attended by over 50 people and saw two local groups walk away with £685 funding (and offers of help), SOUP is now coming to Buckfastleigh.
SOUP is a community-based approach to fundraising for, and supporting, local community projects. It’s great for small projects and individuals trying to get funding for new ideas that benefit the local community.
The first ever Buckfastleigh SOUP will take place on Friday 26th October 2018 (rescheduled from July), at Buckfastleigh Town Hall (6.00pm – c. 8.30pm). The event is kindly supported by Buckfastleigh Town Council.
The idea is simple – it’s like crowd-funding, but with SOUP instead of computers! Local people come together, give a donation for a bowl of soup, and listen to three or four people pitch their project idea.
Pitchers each have the floor for up to five minutes and must rely on their passion and the project to win over the audience.
After the presentations, soup is served and participants have time to think, chat with others, and consider the ideas before choosing their favourite idea to vote on.
The winning pitches will take home, between them, a share both of money taken at the door and of a £400 local donation. They then use it to fund their plans, will coming back to report on their progress at the next SOUP event.
Those wishing to pitch should write a paragraph about their idea or project and send it to firstname.lastname@example.org by 11th October.
The SOUP is made by Andy, our tame local chef, from donated ingredients and time, so to attend, we ask for your help by booking a place in advance on Eventbrite: buckfastleighsoup.eventbrite.co.uk
Booking is free; donations are welcomed at the door. The more we raise, the more the community project/s get to take away.
