The Village Core programme

The Village CORE Programme is a dedicated support programme for communities looking to set up and run a community-owned rural shop. It provides advisory support along with a £40,000 funding package comprised of a £20,000 grant matched with a £20,000 loan which is also matched by the equivalent community contributions. The Village CORE Programme is a partnership between the Plunkett Foundation, Co-operative & Community Finance and the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and is supported by the LankellyChase Foundation. Grants will be awarded to rural communities of at least 300 people which are planning to set up a community-owned shop. The Village Core Programme supports the establishment of community-owned shops in rural communities. This includes the establishment of a new community-owned shop or saving an existing shop by transfer to community ownership. The programme cannot currently support the expansion of existing community-owned shops The Village CORE Programme application process consists of the following stages: Funding is currently limited to geographical areas so to express your interest in receiving financial support please contact them first.
